08 Jun Minority Chamber of Commerce Announces Dr. Richard Knabb, Director of National Hurricane Center (NHC) as a Keynote Speaker at the “Security & Emergency Preparedness Conference Miami”
The objective of this premier conference is provide an opportunity to gain the necessary information to develop an outline response, recovery, and mitigation plans for local members and partners.

Miami, Florida. June 6, 2016. The Minority Chamber of Commerce, announces that Mr. Richard Knabb, Director of the National Hurricane Center will be a speaker at the premier event on “Security & Emergency Preparedness Conference” to be held on Monday June 13, 2016 at the Renaissance Banquet Hall located at 5910 SW 8 Street, Miami, Florida 33144. Mr. Knabb will be addressing an audience of members, representing business, universities, local governments, the nonprofit sector, emergency management professionals, and volunteer organizations. The theme of the conference is “Getting Ready for the Big One”.
Along with Mr. Knabb, as a confirmed speaker at the conference this also includes Mr. Juan Perez, Chief of the Miami Dade Police Department and Mr. Dave Downey, Chief Miami Dade Fire Rescue.
“A hurricane threat facing Miami Dade is unfortunately all too real, saying it will never happen is not an effective business disaster response plan,” explains Doug Mayorga, President and Founder of the Minority Chamber of Commerce, “we are very fortunate to have as a Keynote Speaker Mr. Richard Knabb, the official voice of the National Hurricane Center, he will encourage local businesses and the community to be ready and what they can do to prepare for a natural disaster”.

About Dr. Richard Knabb: Dr. Knabb received his Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science from Purdue
University (1990) and his Masters of Science and Doctorate in Meteorology from Florida State University (1993, 1999). He completed his postdoctoral work at the University of Hawaii (2000). Later that year, he joined NOAA’s National Hurricane Center as the Science and Operations Officer and was a senior hurricane specialist there from 2005-2008.
