Hearst Foundations grant opportunity for arts and science institutions

Washington, D.C., October 15, 2026. — The U.S. Minority Chamber of Commerce announces a funding opportunity for cultural and arts institutions through Hearst Foundations, a philanthropic organization recognized for its support of nonprofit organizations and programs that deliver meaningful benefits to communities.

This opportunity seeks to support institutions that develop meaningful programs in the arts and sciences, with particular priority given to initiatives that encourage youth participation and create a lasting and measurable community impact.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THESE FUNDS?

The program is intended exclusively for organizations based in the United States that hold 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and belong to one of the following categories:

  • Art schools.
  • Ballet companies.
  • Museums.
  • Opera companies.
  • Performing arts centers.
  • Symphony orchestras.
  • Theaters.

Important requirements: Hearst Foundations states that it does not fund organizations with audited annual expenses below $2 million. It also excludes organizations undergoing leadership transitions or whose new leaders have been in their positions for less than one year.

Before preparing an application, interested institutions should therefore carefully verify that they meet all official program requirements.

FUNDING AMOUNTS AND APPLICATION DEADLINE

The amount of a grant will depend on the proposal submitted, the program’s needs, institutional capacity, and a properly justified budget.

Organizations must demonstrate how the requested funds will help fulfill their objectives, expand access to culture and science, strengthen youth participation, and produce verifiable results.

Stated deadline: October 15, 2027.
