A NEW CHAPTER OF FRIENDSHIP, BUSINESS AND INVESTMENT: SURINAME

Washington, D.C. – November 3, 2026

Today, at the Embassy of the Republic of Suriname in Washington, D.C., we took an important step toward building a new bridge of friendship, diplomatic engagement, business relations, and investment opportunities between Suriname and the United States.

Following my arrival from Miami, after an unexpected aircraft malfunction disrupted our flight and left passengers spending the night at the airport, I had the privilege of honoring my scheduled appointment with His Excellency Marlon F. Mohamed, Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname.

At the request of the Surinamese government, our meeting focused on opening a new chapter of economic cooperation, particularly exploring opportunities related to the development of the country's natural gas sector, alongside broader commercial and investment initiatives.

Our nearly two-hour meeting was extremely productive. We discussed a wide range of opportunities, including the supply of fresh fruits, vegetables, coffee, chicken, beef, and other food products, as well as potential developments in housing, hospitality, and hotel infrastructure.

Suriname may be a relatively small nation, with a population smaller than that of Miami, but its economic potential is remarkable. We see opportunities that deserve attention, serious business dialogue, and long-term partnerships.

We were also warmly invited to visit Suriname at a mutually convenient date to continue these conversations and explore opportunities directly on the ground.

Another important outcome was the establishment of protocol to facilitate the participation of His Excellency the Ambassador or Suriname's Minister of Investment at the CEO of the Americas Summit 2026, taking place December 3–5 at the Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel.

We look forward to welcoming an official Surinamese delegation to this important gathering of business leaders, investors, financiers, and international partners.

Furthermore, this Thursday, I will have the pleasure of accompanying His Excellency to a reception in Washington, D.C., hosted by the World Trade Center and dedicated to the Republic of Suriname.

For our Chamber, this is precisely what international business diplomacy is about: transforming introductions into relationships, conversations into opportunities, and opportunities into sustainable investment.

We are ready for a new adventure, and this one is called SURINAME!

Our appreciation to His Excellency Ambassador Marlon F. Mohamed for his hospitality, openness, and willingness to explore new avenues of cooperation.
