Dominican Republic Poised to Become Leader in Seafood Industry

July 7, 2025 | Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The United States Minority Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with S&T USA, SINFOS
SEAFOOD and Manzanillo Maritime Center in a landmark Memorandum of Understanding
signed July 7, 2025, to drive comprehensive growth across the Caribbean’s seafood sector,
with a special focus on the Dominican Republic.

Strategic Alliance under SINFOS SEAFOOD Srl.

The new joint venture, SINFOS SEAFOOD Srl., will launch in Q3 2025, leveraging the Chamber’s 26 years
of cross-border expertise to establish:

  • A state-of-the-art Fishing Development Centre
  • Local vessel manufacturing and commercialization
  • Fishing fleet expansion and modernization
  • Specialized training programs for fishermen
  • Partnerships with associations in Samaná, Luperón and Montecristi

Comprehensive Support Initiatives

To accelerate the region’s seafood growth, the Chamber will deliver:

  • An Official Business Center in Santo Domingo for direct assistance
  • Technology & Food Security programs to introduce cutting-edge fishing methods
  • Microloan packages ($5,000–$25,000) for small fishing businesses
  • Commercial offices to strengthen market access and pricing

“This alliance will unlock the vast potential of the seafood industry in the Dominican Republic
and beyond,” said Saul Salas, Director of S&T USA. “Our combined expertise and strategic
locations position us for sustainable success.”

An Urgent Call for International Support

Under the chamber’s leadership, Doug Mayorga, President of the US Minority Chamber,
has appealed to President Trump and the American private sector to counteract illegal
exploitation by foreign fleets. “We call on U.S. industry to donate equipment and materials,”
he stated, emphasizing the need for strategic backing to safeguard national marine resources.
